I was so wrapped up in my own thoughts that I did not even see her. Just as we met on the sidewalk she greeted me and gave me a big hug. I had been away for a week and she wanted to know how I was doing. We chatted for a while. A few hours later I was back at the drop in time at Oasis followed by the dinner. A number of people had noticed my absence last week and asked about it. I was amazed at how much I had missed being with all of the community members last week including staff and volunteers. There were a number of stories that I really wanted to follow up, such as a couple of guys facing eviction and one trying out a new counselling group for men. I guess that is what “community” feels like.
