Taking a Hockey Stick to the Shower
September 30, 2016 @ 8:26 AM by: Richard Steinecke

I arrived after it had it was all over. Bill (not his real name) was shaken. Another community member had taken much more than his portion of the meat for their table and Bill had asked him to share it with the others. The other community member responded aggressively, saying something to the effect that he had already killed five people and one more would not matter. Bill was being consoled by the others at the table and the person who had uttered the threat was long gone. Bill went on to talk about his current roommate who acted bizarrely, taking sole possession of the shared kitchen and frequently making threatening statements. Bill said “I have to take a hockey stick with me to the shower”. I just could not imagine living constantly in the fear of violence. But Bill did it every day and felt he had little choice. I walked Bill outside and we made sure the other individual had left the vicinity before wishing Bill a “good evening”.
