Family

We often hear talk about a group or organization being like “one big family”. More often than not that is just talk. But at our Walkathon yesterday, the group did feel like family. Certainly there were diverse elements including staff, volunteers, Board members, donors and community members we actively serve. But everyone wanted to catch-up with people they had not seen for a while and were interested in meeting new people. There was talking, laughing and even a bit of private complaining. Kids were running around. The poetry performance appeared to draw everyone together as we celebrated being part of a unique, perhaps a little weird, but unified community.

Right afterwards I ran out to join part of my extended family to celebrate a milestone birthday. We caught up with people we had not seen for a while. There was talking, laughing and even a bit of private complaining. We watched a dramatic performance that drew everyone together as we celebrated being part of a unique, perhaps a little weird, but unified community.

Yesterday I felt like I had two families.
