Focussing on day to day tasks and planning for the near future, we often lose sight of the larger canvass of our lives. It was just a year ago that I started to volunteer half of my work week at Oasis. Looking back at my journal and blog entries, it is obvious that my life has changed irrevocably. I have participated in events, met and interacted with people and seen miracles that I could not even have imagined previously (just read the rest of this blog below). I have also been given a front-row seat to the ugly side of human existence in a way that is often concealed from view, or at least is kept distant from the professional world I still sometimes inhabit. I have learned from quite a few mistakes. But my overarching impression, looking back on the year, is the richness of the joy of having been privileged to be a part of “Oasis”. Not only has my life changed, but I, myself, have changed irrevocably.
