A Short History of our Book Exchange
March 31, 2017 @ 5:27 AM by: Richard Steinecke

It is wonderful to see community members “buy-into” one of our programs. I heard of the idea of a community book exchange from some summer interns working at Liberty Grace Church. I got out a small book shelf and stuck in a few books lying around. When I remembered, I announced that people could borrow a book and encouraged people to drop off any extra books they have read. Some church people brought religious and children’s books and a few of them were borrowed. But the book exchange never seemed to get a lot of attention. I began speaking to some community members one on one. Then last week two community members each brought in a huge box of books. The shelves were now overflowing. And community members started coming to see what it was all about. Yesterday I had a number of people ask if they could borrow two books.

It’s when community members adopt an idea that it has an impact.
