Loss and Regret
May 23, 2017 @ 4:25 AM by: Richard Steinecke

If we are honest with ourselves, we all have regrets. A community member was carefully packing his food into his knapsack. I commented on his skill and attention. He told me that as a teenager he worked in a grocery store packing and carrying groceries. Looking back, he said, it was the best job he ever had. He went on to university and studied economics. He got a desirable job as a professional and has worked in exotic locations all over the world including South America and Asia. However, he has since fallen off the career ladder and hard. His family broke apart and he has lost his relationship with his daughter. Ruefully he wondered what his life would have been like if he had not pursued “the dream” and stayed as a grocery clerk. “I am sure I would have been a lot happier” he concluded. I won’t regret listening to his story.
