Oasis relies on the kindness of strangers. Week after week people we do not know help us. This became so evident last week. For years we knew we needed to replace our shelving in the food storage room. We asked the local carpenters’ union for help. They responded immediately and made a generous donation towards the cost of the materials. Once we removed the old shelving we discovered that our floor in the corner had rotted away. The carpenters agreed to also replace that part of the floor. Last Friday I was with Paul as he worked until the evening hours fixing the floor. I was mostly watching and I was exhausted. The next day Paul returned early with a crew (Clinton and Julia) and built the new shelves. They reinforced the shelves to make sure they could bear the weight of the canned food. Again Paul and his crew worked late. The shelving almost looks like a cathedral. Thank you kind people who are strangers no longer.
