Not being one myself, I have gained a new respect for Executive Directors. At a community meeting on affordable housing hosted by our local MP Julie Dzerowicz about a dozen Executive Directors attended. They each told heart-rending stories about the circumstances faced by their community members: a women who was afraid to flee domestic abuse because she would be confined to a life of poverty, an Hispanic senior who was barely coping alone at home because there were no affordable retirement or nursing homes (and especially not one where she could speak her first language), a street youth transitioning to education and work with no place to live, a refugee family sleeping in a park because all of the refugee shelters were bursting at the seams. I could not help admire these Executive Directors who I knew were all underpaid given their dedication and talent. Our society would be a much worse place without these caring individuals.
