“Happiness is here” said a staff member excitedly. It was food bank day and there were a lot of people in the main room. I wondered if “Happiness” was the name of a community member that had returned after a long absence. Soon I realized that the staff person was referring to the mood of enthusiasm and exuberance of our new students. Our seven students bring a mixture of skills and personalities to Oasis. Two, who worked there last year, appeared to be relaxed and pleased to be back. The five new students seemed to be soaking up the novelty of carrying, sorting and serving food to people who do not have enough to eat. Our students are required to provide, twice each week, written reflections on what they have learned. The initial observations are encouraging as they experience an entirely different part of our culture. Learning from others is happy business.
