Ninety people! The people just kept streaming in. As soon as we brought in more tables and chairs we needed more. The room was bursting. This was probably the most we have ever had for our Tuesday community dinner. Nice weather and holiday closures elsewhere brought a crowd. Our students and volunteers scrambled setting the places and then serving the food. Fortunately we had made a bit extra and our community members all got a solid meal. However, by the time our students and volunteers had a chance to catch their breath the food was gone. Not one student complained to me about not receiving their meal. I am used to skipping the odd meal as I try to “rein in the gut”, but I wonder if this was a new experience for some of our students. Certainly it was one more way to relate to our community.
