It was such a delight to have the day camp from the Dawah Centre (our local mosque) visit the food bank. They helped serve community members with enthusiasm. We also arranged some interactive events to educate them about the work that Oasis does. Some of our community members shared their stories and then some of the leaders from the day camp shared their experiences in being Muslim in Canada. We finished with a luncheon, complete with halal meat. The children had a tremendous amount of energy (I for one was exhausted) and were quite affectionate (some of our summer students made new best friends). At a time when racial, religious and cultural differences are leading to conflict and even murder, making cross-cultural connections is even more important.
