August has been tough for our food bank. Our usual suppliers are experiencing shortages themselves. We have been spending our own funds (which are in short supply) to buy additional food. Some of our community members have felt it, especially when we do not have enough milk or fresh food. One community member asked me “How can I take one apple home when I have two kids to feed”. He took none instead. So it was an enormous encouragement when Shauna, from St. Anne’s Anglican Church down the street, pulled up with a trunk load of food.
Then our local mosque delivered a load of wonderful food supplies and an encouraging message. This was a tangible outcome of their summer day program visit to Oasis a couple of weeks ago.
And then one of our supporting churches ran a food bank drive as a part of their VBS children’s program. A couple of the children helped deliver the food to Oasis and entertained our own summer students at the same time.
Thank you St. Anne’s, the Dawah Centre and Mississauga City Baptist Church. You are a life-saver!
