It was all their idea. Two of our community members wondered if they could cook turkeys for Thanksgiving Tuesday. They would each take a frozen turkey home, defrost it, cook it and bring it in on the day of the meal. But there was a problem. To have enough meat they needed a third turkey. But rather than taking the easy way out to ask staff or have a “commuter volunteer” do it, they recruited another local community member to come into the Oasis kitchen and cook it there. The resulting meal was a huge success. Some community members heard about it in advance from the boasting chefs and came specifically for that dinner. These community members conceived the idea and then planned and implemented it completely by themselves. I could not be more grateful.
