The job description for Oasis volunteers is: do what needs to be done. One of our community members lost her wallet. A kind citizen found it. The wallet did not contain the owner’s contact information but did contain an Oasis Food Bank card. The citizen called Oasis to see if we could help locate the community member. We walked over a note to her house. She was not there and we left the note in her door. I saw her the next week and asked if she had received her wallet back. The blank look on her face told the story; the note we left had not reached her (a number of people live at that house). Fortunately we still had the concerned citizen’s phone number and we put them together on the telephone. Afterwards our community member had a huge smile on her face. A significant source of stress in her life had been removed. What a great analogy. On so many levels Oasis helps people to find that which has been lost.
