One of the costs of joining a new community is having to deal with loss. Some of our community members just disappear, often without warning. However, many of them return with tales to tell. Sometimes community members tell us they are moving to new opportunities and we are able to say goodbye. The hardest loss to deal with is when our community members pass away. This year two deaths were particularly difficult to endure. The first was a victim of the opioid epidemic that is sweeping our country. His passing made the headlines real. The second was a relatively new volunteer, Bonnie, who brought a fresh breath of energy and joy to our kitchen crew on Tuesday evenings. She was friendly, outgoing and always smiling. Her quick deterioration and succumbing to cancer was shocking. We miss them both and ask for God’s comfort to their friends and family.
