Sublimely Divine

High church for a street level cause. St. Anne’s Anglican Church is definitely a high church. Its majestic building is a heritage site with a huge, domed ceiling and artwork by three of the group of seven painters. One feels goose bumps entering it for the first time. However, the Rev. Canon Gary van der Meer makes it accessible. At the beginning of the Cantate he gave the history of the event. The church wanted to be inclusive of the community and thought that one of the best ways to do this was to organize a formal concert where the entire proceeds went to the broader community. Ilyas Alley from the local mosque opened in prayer. A children’s choir performed with other polished (and some professional) musicians.

This year Oasis was one of two recipients of the proceeds. A number of our volunteers, supporters and community members attended an event that was probably out of the ordinary for them. We were able to present what Oasis does to hundreds of local residents. The entire afternoon was sublimely divine.
