What a joy it is to see young talent. Our summer students demonstrated amazing skills at the local Big on Bloor street festival last Saturday. Our table raised awareness of Oasis (almost no one knew we existed) and to promote volunteerism. The students planned and organized activities for the young and old alike. We could have scripted the table activities and just had the students do what we told them, but that would not have been nearly as impressive as what we saw them do. The most popular activity with the younger set was archery (don’t worry, the arrows were rubber tipped and had a range of about ten feet). There was also can stacking and a test on recycling. While the kids were having fun we spoke to the parents. I was amazed at seeing both our extraverted and our introverted students communicating effectively with both the kids and their parents about each activity and about Oasis. They have talent.
