Hopefully it was just ignorance. Hopefully the person who spray painted a green swastika on the corner of Oasis’ home did not intend the hate that the symbol represents. God knows that the building that we serve through, and which houses more than one church, is the residence of compassion, acceptance and love. Our community members responded immediately. First they informed us out of concern. All who saw it were upset. One volunteer could not be restrained. “That thing is coming off now!” He single-handedly located removal fluid and applied physical effort to remove it. Fortunately we had pictures of it to show the police when they arrived as a result of two community complaints. All of our staff, summer students, volunteers and community members made an extra effort to demonstrate that love overcomes ignorance and hate.
