Art Fair #2
August 24, 2018 @ 7:11 AM by: Richard Steinecke

I was three times older than almost everyone else there. Our students had organized an Art Fair on the theme of food insecurity (i.e., people who do not have access to adequate, nutritious, affordable food). Our students had scouted out a location in the trendy Kensington Market area, had recruited the artists and had set up the space. Special volunteers had signed up to help. Juan played his guitar and Kasey sang a few songs. All had invited friends who popped in over the course of the four hours. Even the isolated thunder storms seemed to skirt the area for the most part. Strangers walked in off the street to see what was happening. One even asked for contact information for possible volunteer opportunities. Andrea performed a spoken work poem. I read out my rhyming ditty in honour of the students. A pleasant afternoon for this fish out of water.
