Christmases Past and Present at Oasis
November 24, 2018 @ 9:01 AM by: Richard Steinecke

The Oasis Christmas event has changed over the years. My earliest memories were of Jim Walker and other Board members personally cooking turkeys and serving a full course, sit down dinner to volunteers and supporters of Oasis. Then we shifted to serving dessert, having Spanish music and dancing, and interviews with volunteers and community members. For many years my role was to hang up coats as people arrived and warn them that they would get a parking ticket if they left their vehicle on Hallam Street. I did a poor job of it as many attendees did get parking tickets. In more recent years we involved our community members more in celebration and recognizing all of the volunteers that made it happen.

But every year it involves Christmas music, entertainment, food and inspiration. This year we have some special things planned to recognize our volunteers. We will also be introducing a silent auction so that people can get their Christmas shopping done early. Please join us on Friday, November 30th, at 6:30 pm for food and 7:00 pm for the program. The event will not be at the Oasis site, but rather at New Horizons Tower, 1140 Bloor Street West, right outside the Dufferin subway station. New Horizons has an accessible ground floor auditorium.
