It was time to go to the kitchen to oversee the cleanup. But a community member was regaling me with facts and figures about the universe. The numbers rolled of his tongue with ease. Billions of years here. Tens of thousands of kilometres an hour there. And there was human history, perhaps 10,000 years recorded. Puny in comparison. As I got up to leave I thought of something. I sat back down and said that what this said to me was that God was amazing. To have done all of this and then to care for us humans. To care for me. I don’t usually raise God in conversations as it often does not seem appropriate. It seems intrusive. But my dinner colleague was not offended. In fact he was energized and we talked for another ten minutes sharing our respective views. And, the dishes were still being washed when I finally got to the kitchen.
