For years Liebenzell Mission, based in southwestern Germany, has brought many of its students to Toronto. Because of its diversity, Toronto provides a prime opportunity for future missionaries to develop cross-cultural skills. I suspect it also gives the students and the mission an opportunity to assess whether the candidates are cut out for a going far away from home for an extended period of time. On Monday Oasis received a request to see if we could arrange for three of their students to participate in a part-time placement at Oasis. On Tuesday afternoon we met. By Tuesday evening the students were in the trenches, helping to make and clean up the Community Kitchen meal. They also met many of the community members during the drop-in session (although the showing of the new James Bond movie distracted not a few of our community members). During the dinner the students mingled with the group and were engaged in deep conversations. Thanks Liebenzell.
