Breaking the Record
May 24, 2016 @ 4:34 AM by: Richard Steinecke

Most of the time, breaking a record is a good thing. Fastest 10K run. Maximum GDP the country has ever produced. Highest rate of high school graduation ever. However, some records are not worthy of praise. As I write this India reached the hottest temperature ever recorded, 51 degrees Celsius. Last week Oasis had the largest number of food bank clients ever: 127 families. Fifteen families were new clients. The need is increasing. More families are struggling. The risk of homelessness is getting worse. It is increasingly more difficult for Oasis to meet the demand with its food deliveries declining again. And the crowds are getting larger. We had 50 families crowding our basement ten minutes before the Food Bank even started. This is not a praiseworthy record.
