When I first met Simone, Manuel and Jan, they were enthusiastic young adults in their early twenties. As part of an internship experience, they had travelled from Germany to Canada and were already helping out in a local church. They were looking for some additional activities during the mid-week lull. Soon they became indispensable. Sparking up conversations with community members while they helped prepare, serve and clean up meals, did intake or guided patrons through the Food Bank or completed jigsaw puzzles with like-minded community members. They often did the tasks that others were slow to do such as mop the floors. During this everyone came to adore them. They single-handedly restarted the Bible studies that had been dormant for so long. Saying goodbye these last couple of weeks has been difficult. They certainly made an impression on our entire community.
