One of the best parts of my role at Oasis is visiting churches that are interested in our mission. During the last two Sundays I visited a Hispanic church (service mostly in Spanish) and an African-Canadian church. The music and worship time at both churches, while completely different, was amazing. Lively and participatory are words that do not begin to describe it. The public prayers offered were glorious works of combined art and devotion. I happened to be at the African-Canadian church the Sunday after a series of police shootings (by and of) in the United States and the prayer and preaching was of heightened poignancy. The absolute highlight for me, though, was to listen to a heartfelt poem written and read out by one of the summer students from Oasis. It is miraculous to see tomorrow’s leaders starting to assume their rightful place today.
