This week five community members asked for help in finding housing. Some were being evicted. Some could no longer stay in their premises because of various forms of vermin or extremely challenging housemates. One had to find a place in less than two weeks. I know that if I were in that position I would be desperate. This community member seemed relatively calm. While we are not able help them directly, we tried to empower them with online tools and referrals to agencies that can help more. However, it was interesting to see our community network in action. At our community dinner one community member had a lead. He needed to go home and bring it in the next day at the Food Bank. Since the person in need would not be there, the name and phone number was to be given to me and I was to text it to a friend of the person in need who would then pass on the information. The convoluted communications plan actually worked.
